Dear Abby

Dear Abby,

I have this terrible pain in my joint where my big toe meets my foot. It is only on my right foot. It aches and keeps me up at night. I tend to wear heels a lot for work which hurts but it also hurts really bad when I run. What could it possibly be and what can I do to get relief?

Sincerely,

Sandie B.

Dear Sandie,

There are a number of reasons that your toe could be bothering you. Most times, it is due to improper shoe wear. It’s very important with running to change your shoes every 6 months or 300 to 500 miles. Try changing your running shoes and be cautious when wearing high heels as this puts more pressure on the joint. Rotate heels with lower profile shoes at work to give the joint some relief. An evaluation can always be done to make sure something else isn’t going on and ensure your shoes are fitting properly.
